STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®: The original extreme sport

STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® is a series of extreme sport contests in competitive lumberjacking. It is easy to see why it is considered the pinnacle of competitive lumberjacking. Athletes compete against each other in national and international competitions – in up to three axe and three sawing disciplines.

Each year STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Canada celebrates national championships for our three athletic divisions: Pro, Women and Rookie.  These elite athletes are selected from regional qualifying competitions where the top ranked athletes are invited to participate in the National Championships

Eastern Qualifier - June 14 2025

Join us for the STIHL Timbersports Eastern Qualifier in Bible Hill, NS on Saturday June 14, 2025! Watch our athletes battle it out in a thrilling display of strength and skill at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Complex. The action kicks off at noon, and best of all—it’s free to attend! Don’t miss this exciting event!

Come see the rising stars of timbersports at the Rookie Championship in Chesley, Ontario! As part of Chesley Homecoming, this exciting event kicks off at 1 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2025. Watch talented rookies showcase their strength and skill in a thrilling competition—don’t miss the action!

Experience the Canadian Championship at Western Fair—a free event with fair admission in London Ontario! Witness top athletes compete in the Pro Women’s Championship at 5 PM on September 5, followed by the Pro Men’s Canadian Championship at 1 PM on September 6. Then, don’t miss the high-powered Hot Saw Showdown at 1 PM on September 7. Get ready for an unforgettable weekend of timbersports action!

The history of STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®

Competitive lumberjacking has a long tradition of more than 150 years, which is why it is often called "the original extreme sport”. The sport originated in Australia and New Zealand. From there, the sport spread to Canada, the USA, Europe and most recently to Asia.

The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® disciplines

At STIHL TIMBERSPORTS®, athletes compete in a total of up to six traditional competitive lumberjacking disciplines – depending on the competition format. Three disciplines are performed using an axe, three with a saw. Axe disciplines include the Underhand Chop, the Standing Block Chop and the Springboard. The three saw disciplines are Stock Saw, Single Buck, and Hot Saw.
